Today I have swatches from the limited edition Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Halloween 2014 collection for you. This collection consists of three cremes in white, orange and black, and a black matte. See larger pictures and my thoughts after the jump.
OMGhost – This is two coats of OMGhost with top coat to level things out. The brush made things a little tricky; the firm bristles made some harsh draggy streaks when trying level things out. I didn’t find this formula leveled well, so I had to be somewhat careful, but if you are luckier than me, you might be able to manage to make this a one coat white. I love this one for stamping though. I may have bought more than one back up bottle for that.
Pumpkin Queen – On my first poorly lit attempt at swatching this collection, I had to use three coats for full opacity, but today I was able to get away with two coats plus top coat. I read that another person was able to make this a one coater, but I am definitely not that person. I do love this warm, sightly yellowy shade of orange though. It dried quickly, and smooth (except for that little bubble on the middle finger, but it was pretty hot here today), and self-leveled very nicely.
Scaredy Matte – This satiny black was almost a one coater again, but I had a bit of white peeking through on my free edge. I was talking to my mom over the webcam while applying it though, so if you’re not distracted, you can probably do nicely with one. This does not self- level well, so be careful in your application and be careful with keeping your cuticle balm off the polish so you don’t lose the matte effect. This polish stamps well, and looks very nice over a nice shiny black like…
Night Fright – Forgive the change in nail shape, I decided I needed to re-swatch this due to bubbles in my previous attempt. This is the classiest black nail polish I own. It dries to a super shiny piano black finish; this is two coats with no topcoat. I think adding topcoat would have dulled the finish if anything. Just look at that shine! This polish levels itself nicely and dries quickly, and makes you feel very fancy with your classy black nails. I did have some trouble with bubbles one one attempt at swatching this, but it was really hot in my apartment and there were fans going all over the place, which may have contributed to the problem. Sadly, I find this black is too transparent to stamp elegantly with.
I had to play around with stamping with this colours, since the white does so well. Pumpkin Queen (on my index finger) is fairly transparent over black and dulls down to a brownish colour. OMGhost is wonderful and I love it and it stamps well over black opaquely (middle and ring finger) and red without turning pink (not shown). I’ve scooped up three bottles of this, as it is limited edition. Scaredy Matte (pinky finger) stamps better than I was expecting, though I haven’t stamped with mattes before today, so I had low expectations going in. None of the stamping has top coat.
In all, I’m glad I decided to pick up all four colours of this limited edition Halloween collection. I love them all for various reasons, and they are currently on sale at Walgreens for Buy One Get One 50% off. If you don’t have a stamping white you’re happy with, definitely pick up OMGhost.
Have you seen this around your area? Are you planning to pick any of them up, or have you grabbed some already? Let me know in the comments!
